May 7 @ 10:00 am - 11:15 am
Speaker: Dr. Steve Ealy, Senior Fellow, Liberty Fund
Ralph Ellison published Invisible Man, the only novel he completed, in 1952. It received the National Book Award and established Ellison’s reputation as one of America’s finest writers. This complex novel deals with race relations, politics, and the growing pains of a young man growing up in the segregated South and trying to adjust to the different cultural and political world he found when he moved to Harlem. Throughout the novel Ellison deepens the story with allusions to and quotations from both the Hebrew and Christian Bible. This talk will highlight some of Ellison’s most important biblical characters Ellison mentions, including Job and Jonah, Moses, and Paul.
