The Yuko Mabuchi Trio

January 16 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Yuko Mabuchi started playing classical piano at age of 4, in her hometown of Fukui, Japan. As a teenager she was fascinated by American R&B, Hip-Hop and Blues and after hearing the music of Oscar Peterson and Herbie Hancock she fell in love with Jazz. After high school she entered the AN Music School in Kyoto to study jazz piano under Kunihiro Kameda. After graduating from the conservatory, she began performing locally as a soloist, and as a member of a local jazz trio.

Yuko is representative of the new generation of young international artist who have chosen the Jazz genre as a means of expression. Developing such skills in a small town environment, away from the urban culture of Tokyo, demands true dedication and a real love of music.

In 2010, Yuko arrived in Los Angeles to study at the Music Performance Academy (MPA) in Alhambra, CA. There she recorded her first CD demo project “Red Special” …. a short presentation featuring her original tunes. While studying in LA she had the opportunity to showcase her talent at some of LAs top venues, including the Catalina Jazz Bar, Downtown Biltmore Hotel, Pasadena Levitt Pavilion Summer Concert Series, the Crowne Plaza LAX, and Red White & Bluezz in Pasadena. Her first CD, “Waves,” (Vista Records) was a collection of original compositions.

After returning to Japan in 2013, Yuko has busied herself as a Jazz artist, featured with her trio at the Jazz Spot J Shinjuku in Tokyo, the Fukui Jazz Festival ’14 & ’15, Osaka/Neyagawa Jazz Convention ’14, Jazz Spot Swing in Nagoya, Mokkiriya and Riverside in Kanazawa and appears monthly as a soloist at Keio Plaza, Tokyo.

Yuko has recently returned to the US to promote her new CD, “My Life,” (Vista Records) a collection of original compositions featuring Latin Jazz great, flutist Justo Almario and Smooth Jazz saxophonist Andre Delano. Yuko also donates her time as the accompanist for the Watts-Willowbrook Conservatory and Youth Symphony, a music program that offers training to youngsters in the south Los Angeles area.

The Yuko Mabuchi Trio (Del Atkins-bass & Bob Breton-drums) has just completed a recording project that will be released this summer on vinyl record, as well as CD format.

Mabuchi is very talented and has a genuine feel for the way jazz is structured, yet free. Her taste is impeccable … (and she) can swing like crazy – L.A. Jazz Scene.
