Trouble in Shameland
May 20, 2016 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Artist Michael Carson is on a deadline. Haunted by a childhood tragedy that sent he and his Mother’s lives spiraling in opposite directions and a failed marriage and estranged son, he retreats deep into the pages of his popular graphic novel Shameland, a place where shadows, once cast, never disappear. Within these pages Michael is a boy again, searching for hope and light in the form of his lost toy platypus, Pete. Art and life intertwine when, after years of silence, his mother reaches out to him. The artist must come face to face with his worst nightmares, as he inks his younger self’s fantastic journey through the tantalizingly twisted world of Shameland led by the whimsically wicked Kueen and her Night Legion, who will not rest until shadows have engulfed the land. Uttilizing puppetry, black light and shadow plays this musical journey has reality, fantasy, past and present, colliding frame by frame, page by page, as Michael and his childhood counterpart in Shameland fight to escape the shadow into the light.
